Based on T-Mobile’s video called “The Future of Wireless,” 5G means that we will be closer to living like The Jetsons. Earlier during this week, the nation’s third largest carrier became the first one to announce its plans to build a nationwide 5G network. Today, T-Mobile has posted a video showing what life could be like with such a network deployed. Apparently, AR is one of the things that we will be using every day and in many ways. From checking our parking garage reservations through an AR enabled windshield in our car, to using AR to purchase a dress that we see in a store window, the combination of 5G and Augmented Reality will make our lives much easier.
The video shows T-Mobile using the 600MHz spectrum that it just won in the FCC auction, to help drive a drone that delivers packages directly to your door. Other things to apparently look forward to in a 5G world include interactive billboards, alerting you that your battery operated car needs a charge. Road conditions are transmitted to drivers, giving them information about the surface and traction of the highway.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere says that we shouldn’t expect 5G to be up and running for a few years yet. Wide spread availability might not occur until 2020 at the earliest. But you can get a glimpse of the future by clicking on the video at the top of the story.
