Clumsy flagship phone owners will be happy to know that the rugged Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is on the way. A User Agent String reveals the model number SM-G892A, which is believed to be the AT&T exclusive. The Galaxy S8 Active has been rumored to have received certification for MIL-STD-810G standard compliance, which means that it can survive falls and drops that would wipe out other handsets. It also carries an IP68 certification rating for prrotection from dust and water.
If past is prologue, the specs on the Galaxy S8 Active will be the same as those on the regular version of the phone with one big exception; the batteries used on the Active models have traditionally outspec’d regular variants of the handset. Last year’s 3000mAh battery on the Samsung Galaxy S7 was replaced with the 4000mAh juicer on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. Also different were the color options between the two models. The Galaxy S7 Active came in Camo Green, Titanium Gray and Sandy Gold compared to the Black, White, Gold, Pink Gold and Silver hues offered with the Galaxy S7.
The rest of the specs for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active should include a 5.8-inch display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution. Under the hood will be the Snapdragon 835 chipset. 4GB of RAM is inside, along with 64GB of expandable native storage. The 12MP rear-facing camera includes an aperture of f/1.7, PDAF and OIS. And a 5MP front-facing shooter will grace the front of the Galaxy S8 Active.
To get a version of the Galaxy S8 that will withstand drops and falls requires some change to that gorgeous design that has captivated so many. You will have to mull it over in your mind, what is more important to you, a phone that looks sensational or one that can take a pounding without any worries.
