If you think Japan’s love for modifying cars is obsessive, then wait until you see this. This clip from Great Big Story shows the almost insane amount of modding some Japanese are doing to their trucks, or “dekotora” (Japanese for decorating trucks) as it’s also known.
In some cases, owners spend years tricking out their transports with a DIY aesthetic and up to $100,000 in the process. And what do they end up with? Something of a cross between a Transformer and a mobile video arcade.
With custom graphics, lights and a decals, dekotora customization is considered a spiritual experience rather than just a hobby. Check out the video above to see the trucks in action.
