Police Help Children & Family Resources by Collecting Toys & Money

Davenport police will spend the weekend making Christmas a little brighter for children affected by domestic violence.

Michelle O’Neill reports officers will collect donations for this year’s Christmas Toy Drive and Fundraiser at North Park Mall.

Davenport Police Corporal Kris Mayer has been coordinating the Christmas Toy Drive for ten years. He says Family Resources distributes many of the toys as Christmas gifts to kids who live in domestic violence shelters in the Quad Cities area, plus Clinton and Muscatine.

Staff hold some of the presents back to give children on their birthdays. Family Resources also uses cash donations to buy diapers, clothes, and other necessities for clients throughout the year.

Mayer suggests iTunes or Amazon gift cards for people who don’t know what to donate, especially for teenagers.

The Davenport Police Association and volunteers will collect donations on Saturday from 10 am until 6 pm, and Sunday from 10 to 5. An RV will be set up outside J.C. Penney at North Park Mall on Kimberly Road.

Another group of volunteers will also wrap toys at the Davenport Police Department.

Tomorrow and Friday, people may drop off toys and checks at the police station, US Adventure RV on Brady, and Matt Sturdevant’s State Farm office at Pershing and Locust.
