Woman presses gas instead of brake, damaging 10 cars in parking lot – The Boston Globe

A total of 10 cars were damaged Tuesday afternoon when a woman accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park in a Northampton Walmart parking lot, police said.

Around 1:37 p.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle collision, and upon their arrival they found several vehicles out of place in the parking lot, police said in a Facebook post.

An investigation revealed that a woman, who was not identified, attempted to stop as she pulled into the parking space but instead pressed the accelerator, police said.


The woman drove through the parking spot, hitting other unoccupied, parked vehicles in a series of collisions.

An additional vehicle was damaged by a shopping cart that was pushed by another car, police said.

The woman’s car came to a stop when it wedged between two cars, police said.

No one was injured during the incident, but the woman was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, police said.
